- Weren't you a Paterson place at some point? My family says they knew you from there.
- They did. Alaeddin's opened in Paterson in 1998, the first halal pizzeria in the city, and moved to Clifton later on. That is why the name is familiar to Paterson households who have never seen the Getty Ave storefront. We are still a halal-only kitchen, now at 600 Getty Ave, five minutes south of Main Street across Crooks Bridge.
- We're hosting iftar for about forty people in Paterson. How far ahead do I need to call?
- A day. Anything over six trays should be phoned in 24 hours ahead so we can sequence the brick oven. Ramadan orders coming out of Paterson are usually trays of baked ziti, fried chicken family boxes, salads and a few 28-inch party pies. Plan around Mondays too: we are closed, so a Monday iftar has to be picked up the day before.
- Is it actually faster to drive down from South Paterson than to wait for delivery?
- On a Friday or Saturday night, usually. Main Street backs up on weekend nights, and that is the same traffic our driver has to cross in both directions. Delivery to most of Paterson runs 25 to 40 minutes. The run down Crooks Ave to 600 Getty is about five minutes, so order online before you leave and the pie goes in the oven while you drive.
